Modern scientists rediscover health and healing secrets known to the people of the Pacific for thousands of years, and the local people of Napapar reap the benefits!
Coconuts occur naturally in the pacific, since the seeds (nuts) are spread by ocean currents and the palms grow well in sandy coral based soils. The native peoples have harvested and used them for thousands of years.
The small island of New Britain, off the coast of PNG, is especially favored for coconut production because it is extremely volcanic and volcanic ash particles, rich in natural minerals, constantly fall on the coastal soils and nourishes the coconut palms – natures own superfood.
During the 19th century, German and British white colonialists claimed the land of New Britain and established commercial coconut plantations in order to reap the copra, which is air and smoke dried coconut flesh once crushed for oil and used in the production of soap and other products. They established plantations and planted many new palms.
However, after the price of copra crashed in the 1930s, and again in the1970s, and once PNG became independent in 1975, most of the whites left and the native peoples reclaimed their land.
Napapar is a small coastal village on the island of New Britain off the coast of Papua New Guinea and is populated by members of the Tolai culture. They continue to treasure their cultural traditions and preserve many tribal customs.
Even if coconuts were not a cash crop for the villagers, they are heavily dependent on it for their health and survival. Coconut oil is the major fat in their diet, which is mainly vegetables and fish. Coconuts are a major source of nutrients and energy, and is commonly used in their traditional cooking. Native healers also use coconut oil to treat a wide variety of health problems including: abscesses, asthma, bronchitis, bruises, burns, colds, cough, dysentery, earache, fever, ‘flu, gingivitis, irregular or painful menstruation, jaundice, skin infections and sore throats.
As with most rural coastal villages in Papua New Guinea,, the people of Napapar can just about feed themselves from their gardens and by fishing, but have no reliable source of cash income for school fees and books, clothes, medicines, lamp oil and other essentials of modern life.
When the organic quality of Napapar’s coconuts was realized, the villagers were encouraged to harvest the nuts commercially for the first time in decades, and a small modern plant was built to extract the virgin oil without heat. This is the source of all Niugini Organic Coconut Oil.
Today, under a fair trading scheme that ensures that the villagers are paid a fair price for their coconuts, Napapar has been transformed into a happier, healthier and more prosperous place.
By using Niugini Coconut Oil, you can be part of this exciting transformation
What does fair trade mean to the people of Napapar? Those who are registered as suppliers to the plant (and there is a waiting list) receive:
Harrison Param, his brother Malakai and their families live in a small hamlet of Napapar called “Sunnybird”. When the foreign owner of Marten Plantation left PNG 1983, Harrison’s father, Param, bought the property – paying for it in spite of the fact it is part of what would have been regarded as their traditional lands. When their father passed away, Harrison and Malakai inherited it.
They have spent years unable to make a living from their coconut plantation, and this has resulted in the property being pretty run down. The commercial banks do not regard their plantation as equity that they can borrow against, so with little money it has been almost impossible to make any serious redevelopments or changes which are essential for turning the land into a business.
Harrison would like to improve the family’s income by planting balsawood tress and cocoa under the palm trees, but cocoa has become a high risk crop, thanks to an imported pest, the Asian Cocoa Pod Borer, and coconuts are the main cash crop.
We have a waiting list of villagers like Harrison who would like to be accepted as suppliers of coconuts for Nuigini Organic coconut Oil and we will recruit new suppliers in the area as our sales improve. Their acceptance could literally change their life forever.
There are several suppliers of coconut oil in the Pacific, but when you choose Niugini cold pressed organic coconut oil from Napapar, you also have the chance to help a whole village. Coconut oil will undoubtedly improve your health, and transform the lives of the farmers in Napapar.

Research is mounting, by simply substituting polyunsaturated vegetable oils and margarines with coconut oil…and doing nothing else…you can lose significant amounts of weight! It will feel you up so that you don’t crave foods that will put on the pounds, and it is easily converted to energy instead of settling on your waist, hips and thighs.
Reliable scientific evidence indicates that organic, cold pressed coconut oil stimulates the metabolism and encourages the production of insulin, reduces free radicals that inhibit its absorption into the cells, and is not deposited in the blood vessels as cholesterol. Put simply, coconut oil is seriously beneficial for people who have diabetes.
There is a scientific reason why organic coconut oil is less likely to deposit cholesterol in your blood vessels and fat around your waist and buttocks than conventional “healthy” polyunsaturated vegetable oils and margarines. It is because coconut oil has a different molecular structure and, as a result, it is not absorbed into your body the same way.
