Selenium promotes tissue elasticity and youthful skin
appearance.
In New Zealand fresh produce is grown in soils deficient in
minerals such as Selenium, Boron and Zinc. Although these minerals are only
needed by the body in tiny amounts, they make a huge contribution to our
well-being.
We may need to supplement with minerals if we are under
stress, exercising strenuously, dieting, drinking tea, coffee, or alcohol,
eating processed foods, taking prescription drugs, pregnant, smoking, taking
oral contraceptives, have poor digestion and also with increasing age.
Selenium has been known to help raise sperm count, which may
help to increase fertility in men. When combined with zinc selenium may also be
helpful for enlarged prostate conditions.
Zinc and Selenium are key in maintaining balance in the body
and help keep serious diseases away. Recent research has added to the pile of
data underscoring the importance of these minerals in preventing proliferation
of abnormal cell growth.
